It’s Time to Slow Down We live in a crazy active world, with notifications and vibrations and beeps coming through on all devices at all times, and you don’t need Rockin' Wellness to tell you that. Who texted me? How quickly do I need to respond to that work email? What did my favorite sports team do? You can bounce around from morning until you go to sleep on different apps, emails and calls. We are so used to this daily routine we don’t even think about it, but it is extremely important to slow down and take some much needed time for yourself. We focus a lot on our physical health since Rockin' Wellness is made to help you in many different ways, but we don’t often talk about mental health which is just as important. We always think about physical health as a society, I need to get to the gym, I need to eat healthier, I need to drink less alcohol etc. We so rarely think about giving your mind a break or care. Some of the benefits are 1. Reducing stress - Your life is stressful we get it, and technology is a huge help, but sometimes it only makes things more stressful. If you sit back while reading this and think about all the things you need to do my guess is you can feel the stress coming on. Try simply taking a deep breath while doing a task, every once in a while, stop and breathe in and out. Also try and accomplish tasks a bit slower than normal, instead of driving fast to get to the next destination or rushing through a report because you need to move on to the next assignment, make a conscious effort to go a little slower. You will notice a natural decrease in your stress levels. 2. Focus and Clarity on your tasks – If you have been a customer or have known about Rockin' Wellness for a while you know we preach a lot about focus. Some of the superfood ingredients in our Chocolate shake are a great natural way to gain some focus. However you can also gain focus by really thinking about your tasks and decisions. Ask yourself, what is the most important few things I need to get done? If I only had 2 hours to work today what would I do? We get so lost in the actual tasks we don’t think about why we are doing what we are doing. 3. Lose or Maintain Weight – You may have heard this one before, but it takes your brain about 20 minutes to realize that you are full when you are eating. Take your time when you are eating, savor the food, put the fork down between bites. I can’t tell you how many times I was busy at work and didn’t have a lot of time for lunch so I just gobble up whatever is in site, or I have 15 minutes to eat dinner before going out for the night. It might be hard at first, but slow down your meals and you will notice your weight will be easier to maintain 4. Enjoying the Moment – Ok this sounds like the most cliché sentenced ever written, even while typing it I was cringing a bit. How often have you heard “just relax and enjoy the moment”. At first I scoffed at the idea anytime I heard it, I enjoy life plenty I would think to myself and I don’t need to slow down to enjoy it. Then I started thinking about it and realized how wrong I was. Have you ever driven home from work and been on the phone with someone the entire ride? When you pull into your driveway I bet if you think back you can’t remember what you saw on the way home. Your mind goes into autopilot mode, making the necessary turns and shifts, but if you tried you can’t remember the road signs you passed, or the type of other cars you passed on the road or the colors the sun made as it was setting. That happens in life as well, you are playing a game on your phone, or texting a friend and you don’t even think about what is in front of you. Next time you are having dinner put your phone in the other room or on airplane mode, focus your mind on what is happening right now and don’t think about what is happening tomorrow. You will notice a change in how you experience the things and people in your life. We hope some of these suggestions are helpful for you and if not we hope at least it gets you thinking in a different way. We want to focus on being a community that encourages others to think differently and healthy. We won’t say you have to do something in order to live better because we know what works for someone might not work for someone else. As long as you are thinking about yourself and how you can be healthier we know we are doing something right.
