As we continue down the path of our "ROOT of all HEALTH" series, I am going to talk about a powerful root spice vegetable that is a relative cousin of the Turmeric Root known as Ginger Root. It is considered a powerful medicine and one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. I was first introduced to ginger by juicing it and adding it to my green vegetable juices that I would drink daily while recovering from life threatening digestive disease. I was hesitant to try it because I had never been able to tolerate spicy foods, but a friend encouraged me to stick with it, be consistent and I would soon feel the results. I choked down the first couple of drinks and it took adjustment for sure, but just fifteen minutes after drinking each, I had an intense rush of clean energy, mental clarity and overall feel good sensation. I was amazed, in love and completely sold from then on. I consume ginger almost everyday now. Yes, it is that good. There are many possible health benefits attached when discussing the power of ginger root, here are at least 5 topics of discussion that really stick out to me. Antioxidants & Immune Function - Ginger has a long history of use for relieving digestive problems such as nausea, loss of appetite, motion sickness and pain. It is very antimicrobial, killing bacteria, internally and topically as an antiseptic. Antioxidant compounds in Ginger such as polyphenols, vitamin C, beta-carotene, flavonoids and tannins provide significant healing and symptom relieving possiblilies in areas from your belly to your brain. Anti-Inflammatory - This root vegetable is among the healthiest and tastiest spices on the planet. Many cultures look at ginger root as a "spice from heaven". There are chemical compound antioxidants in ginger that have anti-inflammatory effects and can help reduce inflammation levels in the body. A University of Miami study concluded that ginger extract could one day be a substitute to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The study compared the effects of a highly concentrated ginger extract to placebo in 247 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. The ginger reduced pain and stiffness in knee joints by 40 percent over the placebo. “Research shows that ginger affects certain inflammatory processes at a cellular level,” says the study’s lead author, Roy Altman, MD, now at the University of California, Los Angeles. Gingerol - Ginger Root contains a substance called Gingerol, a compound that possess powerful medicinal properties. A phytochemical of flavonoids (polyphenols) that are effective in battles against Asthma, Dementia, certain types of Cancers, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Ginger Root has a very long history of use in various forms of traditional/alternative medicine. Improves Metabolism & Digestive Function - Ginger aids in weight loss and improves metabolism, increases body temperature and can speed up calorie burning with proper exercise. It also enhances the thermic effect on foods and makes the body believe that it is full. It helps relieve indigestion, cleans the colon, stimulates production of digestive juices, helps clear gas and relief from bowel disorders. Muscle Recovery - Ginger helps with muscle recovery, it contains chromium, magnesium, and zinc which are key ingredients in maintaining healthy and normal blood flow. As a powerful anti-inflammatory, it also helps to reduce and ease muscle pain. We have a created a very powerful life enhancing tea blend we call CinnaGreen Spice Tea +Energy.
